A tapered steel punch on a beech handle, sized to the kit’s twist caps. Punch each branch hole while the clay is still soft and the bulbs go in without a fight after firing. Clay shrinks in the kiln, so test one hole at bisque before you commit a whole batch.
This tool is for greenware only. Once a piece is fired, switch to a diamond edged bit. A standard bit will not survive fired ceramic.
Punch size: Large Standard, the size that matches the Large caps in the current 125-light Magic Light Kit. Use it to prepare light openings while the tree is still greenware. The openings become smaller as the piece dries and fires, so test the fit at bisque before you commit a whole batch.
